Dear fellow rural banker:

We are pleased to inform you that the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines will hold its 47th Charter Anniversary-Symposium at the Grand Ballroom of the Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila on October 12-13, 2004 with the theme:

“Good Governance – Rural Banks’ Response for Community Development”
“International Year of Microcredit 2005”

Key personalities from government and private financial institutions will be invited as speakers and resource persons to provide new insights and alternatives for the rural banking sector. The sessions will, therefore, call for an active interaction between the delegates and the speakers in order to make this year’s gathering as fruitful and meaningful as possible.

Day one of the symposium will be the normal opening ceremonies to be followed by a whole-day various workshop topics for you to choose from. In this connection, we are enjoining all federations to submit their concerns so that we can incorporate these in the program of activities that we are preparing. The second day will be the plenary session wherein all resolutions during the workshops will be presented for adoption by the general membership. We are inviting you to attend this two-day affair to discuss and map out long term programs of our Association amidst the challenges of the new millennium. Our solid presence will speak about the determination and political will of RBAP to put in place good corporate governance. For more details and updates regarding the symposium, please visit our website (www.rbap.org).

Special discussions will be devoted to microfinance to sustain public awareness and build collective strategies to position rural banking sysem in addressing the challenges of community development and the enterprising poor. This is very timely since we are participating actively in opening wider access to financial services for farmers, fisherfolks and microentrepreneurs in accordance with the UN declared International Year of Microcredit 2005.

Please be advised that we are not increasing the registration fees despite significant cost increases to encourage more delegates to participate. In this connection, we are sending herewith the allowable expenses by rural bank-delegates to the symposium, the registration and hotel accommodation forms and the advertising contract. Kindly return the advertising contract on or before September 24, 2004.

Best personal regards.

Very truly yours,
