The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas is conducting information seminars in the strategic regions of the country to promote the development of sustainable microfinance. This effort aims to increase the practitioners' knowledge, appreciation and understanding of microfinance core principles, best practices as well as the current policy environment, specifically the BSP guidelines and regulations on microfinance. The end goal is to catalyze the development os sustainable microfinance institutions in the country to be able to reach a larger number of entrepreneurial poor.
Members, colleagues and practitioners of the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP) within the region are invited to attend the whole-day seminar to be held in Lucena City on March 29, 2004. The venue will be the Queen Margarette Hotel, Diversion Road Domoit, Lucena City. There will be no seminar fee.
Topics for discussion are:
- the basic concepts and principles of microfinance,
- the national strategy for microfinance,
- the BSP guidelines and regulations thereon, and
- practitioners' experiences and best practices
The seminar will be open to institutions that are interested in microfinance, those that are already engaged in microfinance but would want to formalize their operations through the establishment of a bank and even banks that are already engaged in microfinance.
